Hey Everyone!
A frequently asked question!
“What should you do before coloring your hair?”
I have been coloring hair for a long time in the business of doing hair. Sometimes you forget, not everyone knows the basics of what to do. So, I thought I would write a blog post about things I often tell my clients when asked. Here are some of the basics!
First you need to find out the color process you are having. Anything that’s on the scalp should not be washed the day of. If you do need to wash your hair due to some product residue and or build up, try to remove it a day or two ahead of time.
To remove any of the product, give your hair a good brushing (not so rough that it irritates your scalp) And then wash your hair a couple of time to remove any of the possible buildup. If needed use a light conditioner to remove tangles.
If you are concerned about the part in your hair showing that day, try a zig zag part in your hair or you can also part your hair on an angle. Just avoid a middle or straight lines.
The day of your service try to avoid heavy styling products such as gels and hairsprays and especially those touch up kits to cover greys etc. Some of them have a very waxy build up and can cause the color to not take on your hair properly. Plus, they would have to be washed out and we really want to avoid this.
Post color care: Try to wait 48 hours before washing your hair. This allows the cuticle to close and keeps your color looking fresher longer.
Last but not least, use good hair products that are designed for color treated hair. If you are unsure of which products to use, ask your stylist or me for advice. There are many different products and depending on your hair type they can give your differing results.
I hope this was helpful. Of course, if there are any other questions regarding hair color, ask away. I will do my best to help you out with answers.
