Should You Wash Your Hair Before Color

Do Not Wash Before Scalp Service

If you are having a on the scalp service, for example root touch up of any sort, do “not” wash your hair. The reason is minimal irritation for the scalp this way.

This is why sometimes if someone want to go super blonde it may take a few applications and the scalp and hair need rest time in between services. (like a day or two or even a week) depending on the applications.

Some people have thinner skins and have less ability to handle as much coloring as others. However, if you are getting hair color done in foils and nothing is touching your scalp then washing it is not as much of a concern.

Now there are caveats to this rule.

Remove Any Product Build Up

In the hair color world, some companies have developed in between color touch up kits. Some of these kits are very waxy and extremely tough to get out of the hair and can and have block the color service from being successful. In this case, the hair needs to be gently washed to remove these products. And if you are using these, please remove them at home beforehand to save time.

Also goes for some cases if there is a product buildup in the hair. Hairsprays etc. But always if you are unsure, consult your stylist and they will let you know depending on your service what needs to be done.

Any question? Feel free to ask.
